'Mriga' means 'a deer' and 'Sira' means 'head' — the Head of the Deer. The deer is a symbol of the Moon; the shadows on the lunar surface are said to represent the head of the deer, making birth in Mrigashira very auspicious and giving these people a special sensitivity.
