🌿 The Exhausted One — The Alchemy of Adversity
Hexagram 47 is Lake (☱) above Water (☵) — the image of the lake with no water, drained and exhausted. This is the hexagram of oppression, exhaustion, and the profound alchemy that occurs in the depths of adversity. The lake appears empty — yet beneath the surface, the water has not disappeared. It has gone deeper.
The Exhausted One is the one who has been pressed to their limits — who has given everything and finds themselves depleted. Yet the I Ching offers a paradoxical wisdom: Oppression. Success. In the very depths of exhaustion, when words are not believed and the way forward is unclear, the superior one stakes their life on following their will. This is the moment of inner alchemy — when the lead of suffering is transmuted into gold.
