Hexagram 40 is Thunder (☳) above Water (☵) — the image of thunder and rain breaking through after a long period of tension. This is the hexagram of deliverance, release, and liberation from difficulty. The storm has passed. The tension breaks. What was blocked now flows freely again.
The Hermit archetype here is the one who has endured the long night alone, who has held their center through exhaustion and difficulty, and who now emerges into the clearing.
