The Mountain sits upon the Earth, but the Earth is eroding beneath it. Hexagram 23 — Bo — is the hexagram of dissolution, of things falling away. It is not a time for action or advancement; it is a time to be still, to let what must go, go. The wise person does not fight the tide of dissolution — they understand that what is splitting apart is making way for renewal. The paradox: the way to preserve what matters is not to cling, but to release with generosity and grace.
Gene Keys: Complexity → Simplicity → Quintessence
Shadow — Complexity: The mind’s addiction to complexity — endless elaboration, over-thinking, the inability to land on the simple truth. Complexity is often a defence: if everything is complicated, nothing can be clearly seen or clearly said.
Gift — Simplicity: When the shadow of complexity dissolves, what remains is the ability to distil the essential from the complex, to speak the truth plainly, to see through to the heart of any matter.
