Botanical Name: Achillea millefolium

Origin: Europe, Asia, North America — organically grown wild in Bulgaria
Part Used: White flowering tops and green leaves
Extraction: Steam distillation
Aroma: Sweet, fresh, green-herbaceous with woody and camphoraceous notes; becomes sweeter in the drydown

Chemistry: Sesquiterpene-rich — high Chamazulene content gives the deep blue colour and anti-inflammatory power

🔬 Chemistry — Chamazulene | כימיה

Chamazulene is the blue-pigmented sesquiterpene responsible for Yarrow's iconic deep blue colour and its powerful anti-inflammatory action. Crucially, Chamazulene does not exist in the raw plant — it is formed only during distillation, when intense heat converts Matricin (found in the flowers) into Chamazulene. This is why steam distillation quality directly determines the therapeutic value of the oil.

🏛️ Mythology — Achilles & the Trojan War | מיתולוגיה

The Yarrow herb is named after Achilles, the hero of Greek mythology who used the herb to treat the wounds of soldiers he led in the Trojan War. Achilles was nearly invulnerable — except for his heel, the one part of his body left unprotected. He died from a fatal wound to that heel. This is why both the Achilles tendon and the Latin binomial Achillea millefolium share his name — a plant of warriors, wounds, and the courage to heal.
