Saffron (כרכום — Karkom) is mentioned in the Song of Songs (4:14) alongside nard, calamus, cinnamon, frankincense, myrrh, and aloes: "Nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices." It was used in ancient Egypt, Persia, and the Levant for perfumery, medicine, and sacred ritual.
In Kabbalistic tradition, Saffron corresponds to Netzach — Victory, the sphere of Venus, beauty, endurance, and the creative force of nature. Its golden color and extraordinary rarity make it a symbol of divine abundance and perseverance.
