If the 22 Major Arcana are the great archetypes — the cosmic forces, the soul's journey — then the 56 Minor Arcana are the texture of daily life. They are the moments, the moods, the choices, the relationships, the challenges and joys that make up the fabric of lived experience. Divided into four suits — Wands (Fire), Cups (Water), Swords (Air), and Pentacles (Earth) — each suit contains 14 cards: the Ace (pure elemental seed), nine numbered cards (the Decans, each linked to an astrological decan and an I Ching hexagram), and four Court Cards (the human archetypes of each element).

Pure elemental potential · The beginning of each suit's journey
The four Aces are the purest expression of each element — undifferentiated potential, the seed before it becomes a plant. Each Ace corresponds to one of the four Kabbalistic worlds (Atziluth, Briah, Yetzirah, Assiah) and to the first breath of a new cycle. In aromatherapy, they pair with the most essential, archetypal oils of each element.

Cards 2 through 10 of each suit correspond to the 36 astrological decans — 10-degree segments of the zodiac, each ruled by a planet within a sign. Each decan is also linked to an I Ching hexagram (Jonathan Benavides & Manuel Silva) and an essential oil, creating a rich three-way correspondence between Western astrology, Chinese wisdom, and aromatherapy.

Aries · Leo · Sagittarius — the three fire signs, each contributing three decans of creative, passionate, visionary energy. From the bold initiative of the 2 of Wands (Mars in Aries) to the oppressive burden of the 10 of Wands (Saturn in Sagittarius), the Wands journey maps the full arc of fire's expression.

Capricorn · Taurus · Virgo — the three earth signs, grounding the journey from the juggling act of the 2 of Pentacles (Jupiter in Capricorn) to the abundant legacy of the 10 of Pentacles (Mercury in Virgo). The Pentacles suit is the suit of the body, of wealth, of the material world made sacred.
